Zeba's Daily Journal

the weather was optimal for taking a bird outside to watch my husband umpire softball at a nearby playing field, so we decided to take zeba. we had a great time! zeba was a little nervous about the people passing around him so he wasn't much in a talkative mood, but i think with a few more of these outings, he will feel much more comfortable.

its very interesting when i go out with a bird to these parks. i find a lot of people (some kids) ask me a bunch of questions about the type of bird zeba is, what he eats, how long he lives, if he bites...and of course, does he talk? they are so amazed how old he is and that he could live up to 70 - 80 years if well taken care of and with a little luck. and most of them commented on how big zeba is. zeba is a big bird, yes. he probably weights about 1/2 a pound. he stands at about 13 inches from head to tip of tail.

male amazons tend to be a lot bigger than the females. i only realized this just recently when i saw a female yellow naped amazon. she was maybe 1/3 the size of our amazon! she looked like a baby. (females also tend to be less aggressive than their male counterparts).

zeba was very nice to the visitors. he didn't charge or lunge at any of them. it looked like he was even a little afraid of the people that came by to see him. poor guy. overall, though, i think he loves the sun on his feathers and being out under the blue sky.
